Named after a man, not an herb, this specialty was originally produced by Trappist Monks in the abbey of Rotthalmunster. It is smoked over select beechwood embers, a process that lends Bruder Basil its unique flavor. Butterkase is Germany's best-selling cheese. Creamy and smooth, Butterkase is similar to Havarti in texture, but has a slight pungency not found in it's Danish counterpart.
